Kjaer Weis Sweetness Lip Tint

Coral is big this summer, and while I usually eschew trends, I'm embracing this one.  Why?
I recently purchased Lasting Finish Lipstick in 012 (coral) from Kate Moss's collection for Rimmel London and the red-coral lipstick that Poppy King created for J. Crew.  I like the Kate Moss lipstick better than the Poppy King lipstick because it doesn't spread beyond the lip line.

Here's another coral lip color I'm craving:

Kjaer Weis Lip Tint in Sweetness
Kjaer Weis Lip Tint in Sweetness is described as a "beautiful coral/orange, sheer lip tint."  It would be a nice alternative finish to the Kate Moss and Poppy King lipsticks.  I also like the one-of-a-kind packaging.

I interviewed Kirsten Kjaer Weis in November 2011.  Since then, she's added an online store to the Kjaer Weis web site.

Is Kate Moss still with Rimmel London?

I was a bit confused by this ad featuring Kate Moss for Dior Addict lipstick:

Kate Moss for Dior Addict Lipstick
Doesn't Kate represent Rimmel London?  What about future Kate Moss lipstick collections that Rimmel London promises?  Did Kate jump ship?

Kate Moss for Rimmel London Lasting Finish lipstick
Check out the similarities between the two ads.  The way Kate is holding her hand is nearly identical in the two ads.

Rimmel London's PR rep assures me that Kate is still with Rimmel London and she will be coming out with more lipstick collections with Rimmel London in upcoming seasons.  That's good news - I like Lasting Finish Lipstick in 012 (coral) from Kate's collection - even better than the coral lipstick that Poppy King created for J. Crew.

ThickerLongerBetter Part I

Many of us are constantly seeking the perfect mascara: one that thickens or lengthen lashes (or maybe both!) and doesn't smear or clump.

Many people like Cover Girl's Lash Blast. While Lash Blast doesn't smear or clump, I was disappointed, as it didn't deliver on building significant thicker lashes. Rimmel's new Glam'EYES does deliver on building thicker and longer lashes and doesn't smear. However, you might want to run a lash comb or clean mascara wand afterwards to define and separate the lashes.

Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express mascara

beauty girl musings had great things to say about Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express mascara. I have yet to try this mascara. If Lash Blast's orange packaging was eye-catching, then Colossal Volum' Express's packaging is eye-popping, in a yellow that fairly screams. Monique said that you'd expect to pay about $7 for Colossal Volum' Express. Where I live (Northern Virginia, near DC), if you have a CVS customer card, you can get Colossal Volum' Express on sale for $4.99 through Saturday, July 5; even better, you'll get "bonus bucks" that will give you $2 discount on a future CVS purchase. Enter your zip code to locate your nearest CVS store at CVS.com and browse the Weekly Store Ad to see if this offer applies to your store.

Since I mentioned the CVS sale, I should also mention another special applying to my location is "bonus bucks" for $5 discount on a future CVS purchase with purchase of LaRoche-Posay's Anthelios SX SPF 15 sunscreen. Anthelios SX contains Mexoryl SX, which is the 1st sun filter in a sunscreen approved by the FDA in 18 years. Mexoryl SX fills the gap in sunscreens for short UVA ranges.

PS I took advantage of the CVS sale to purchase Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express mascara. This has the edge over Rimmel's new Glam'EYES mascara. Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express is a buy.

PS Just got notice from Anthelios' PR that Anthelios 40 with SPF 40 will be available soon.

Underground by Rimmel

Underground by Rimmel is more daring than Rimmel's regular line, and invites comparison to L'Oreal HIP. While Underground is geared toward teens and twenties, there are some great products that woman of all ages can use.

Stir It Up Cream Eyeshadow in Wassup? by Underground by Rimmel

The cream eyeshadow features different shades that are mixed together when you apply it with your fingers. There's some glitter in this, but if that's not the effect that you're seeking, just remove it by flicking a cotton swab or Q-Tip over it.

Cheeky! Blush Duo in Cheer Up by Underground by Rimmel

This blush duo features pale apricot and deep rose shades. Nowadays, most of the shades of blush from mass-market brands are subtle (to be foolproof), so this blush duo stands out. It can look natural by applying the deep rose shade on the apple of the cheeks - don't blend out to the temples. If it's too bright, the pale apricot shade will tone it down. There are several other shades of Cheeky! Blush Duo available, and all are wearable.

Loud Mouth Lipgloss in Pucker Up from Underground by Rimmel

Don't be fooled by the name. This is more lip stain than lip gloss. In addition to Pucker Up, there are other wearable shades of Loud Mouth Lipgloss that will appeal to women of all ages. To prevent the stain from going beyond your mouth, consider lining your lips with clear lipliner first.

Because Loud Mouth Lipgloss is a lip stain, it can be drying. Now since the weather is getting colder, you need to keep your lips conditioned. I use Aquaphor icon, essentially a goo of petroleum jelly and mineral oil, at night to condition my lips (for more, see Treating Chapped Lips). I also like Sally Hansen Healing Butter for Lips (not available through drugstore.com, alas). It boasts of having shea, mango, cocoa and murumuru butters, but if you're seeking a plant-based product, this isn't it: petroleum jelly tops the list of ingredients and these butters are way down the list. Still, it's very emollient.

Underground by Rimmel may be found at Target, and Ulta in the U.S.

Mascara reviews - Rimmel, Physicians Formula

Categories: ,

It’s been said that once women find a mascara they like, they stick to it. The Style Page is no exception. Several years ago, I discovered Maybelline’s Volum’Express mascara and stuck to it. I take advantage of sales to stock up. I like the way it thickens my eyelashes and doesn't clump. However, I am a sucker for new ways of packaging cosmetics.

Volum’Eyes Instant Full Volume Comb Mascara from Rimmel

Rimmel Volum’Eyes Instant Full Volume Comb Mascara features a comb rather a mascara brush. One would think that the comb would separate lashes and prevent clumping, but it doesn’t. After applying this mascara, my lashes looked like the spiky eyelashes that Cher had in her Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour heydey. In that way, the store displays featuring Kate Moss with a curiously clean mascara wand are misleading. Shop Rimmel at Wal-Mart.

Lash-in-a-Tube® Full Coverage Cream Mascara from Physicians' Formula

Physicians Formula Lash-in-a-Tube Mascara is also billed as a volumizing mascara. While this mascara doesn’t clump like the Rimmel mascara, it doesn’t build volume. Shop Physicians Formula at major drugstores and discount chains.

After applying mascara, I brush my lashes with a mascara wand salvaged from a tube that I discarded. But if you like a good gimmick (as I do), you can also use Paula Dorf’s Mascara Fan ($16). Shop Paula Dorf at Sephora.
